So as I stated in an earlier post, Friday Night I was blessed with tickets to go see The Roots in concert with Erykah Badu at Radio City Music Hall. I knew going in that it was going to be Miss Badu headlining the show but it did say “With The Roots”. So after telling everybody “Be there at 7:30 on the dot, not a Dominican 7:30, not 7:40, 7:30 on the dot.” of courseI get there at a Dominican 7:30 myself (what can I say, its in my DNA).
By the time we finally got in the place and out of the soaking rain, (about 8:15…15 minutes after the show start time) The Roots were already rocking on stage. About 2 songs later…”Peace!” I’m like WTF?! THATS IT?! They were outtie! I mean I enjoyed watching them for the little bit they were up there but damn, that was pretty fast.
The next 40-60 mins were waiting for Miss Badu’s people to set up while the crowd talked and drank amongst themselves. Then she finally hit the stage and did her thing which wasn’t a bad show at all but being that I don’t really listen to her like that (the only song I was familiar with was probably “Tyrone” and the one with the Dr. Dre “Explosive” sample in it) I was feeling like “These motherfuckers tricked me into an Erykah Badu concert!” I was expecting to see The Roots rock on stage for at least half the night and Miss Badu the rest of the night but whatever, I stayed for the rest of the (really really really long) show which was borderline wierd but very energetic.
Her fans were definitely feeling her up there. At one point I had nothing but peoples backs and asses in my view (since Radio City is seating) but since I wasn’t a hardcore Badu fan I didn’t mind (and I didn’t want to block the people behind me by standing up since I was already being blocked myself). I definitely would’ve enjoyed it a lot more if The Roots would have performed a while longer (they even did “You Got Me” sans Miss Badu) but whatever.
It was a free ticket, first time Badu experience, the night was pretty good. Thank you to Miss Melo for the tickets and Everybody who came along for the ride. Next time I’ll make sure The Roots are going to rock for a while, sorry for the false advertisement.
A secret source got us this footage of Hillary Clinton’s meeting with Democratic party leaders, after the results of last night’s primaries in NC and Indiana.
“Tell her the limo is outside, she’s bouncing with meeee!”
I’d still give it to Alicia in the doobie wrap and sweatsuit. A-Keys & O-Munn got it on lock for me right now and they’re not even trying to be super fly with their looks either, they’re just everyday looking pretty ladies.
New “Air Yeezy” colorway but like many other sneakers that I wasn’t feeling initially at first, I think I’m going to hold off any judgement on these until I see the final product for myself. This color way isn’t bad tho compared to previous ones. Spotted at Cliff Notes.
Since I don’t usually start my “Award Tour” til June, I will call this my pre-season warm up to this year’s Award Tour.
HOTC Tour wasn’t bad but I’ve seen better from Jay since I’ve been to a few of his shows. I’m a bit jaded. Mary definitely took it last night, Jay’s set was pretty bland in comparison to other shows. I’ll post up pics whenever I get around to it next week I guess since the rest of this week and weekend is pretty much booked. I’ve got all of the above, Mothers Day annnnd Mom Duke’s Birthday all in the next 5 days.
I think of Alice in Wonderland everytime I listen to this song. I broke it down after the jump from the Original sample to other songs that sampled it all the way to the Lupe joint according to Wikipedia. Enjoy!
The homie “Nation of Moderation” has been keeping me on point with these movie trailers for a minute now. Big up to him.
I seriously can’t wait for this movie b/c the first one was kick ass but I still don’t know how I feel about anyone else besides Jack playing The Joker. To me, Jack Nicholson’s Joker performance was 5 mics! Flawless. One of the best villains ever. I understand in the comics The Joker is a bit more sadistic than Jack’s and thats what they were going for in this movie but I still don’t think anyone besides Jack can pull it off. We’ll see if I’m proven wrong. Aside from that, I’m pretty sure the rest of the movie will be amazing. Also we get to see the origin of Two Face and not just a character thrown in the mix w/o any background story, I thought that was dope as well.
Overall for a comic book fan like myself, 2008 is shaping up pretty good. Still have yet to see Iron Man (and I hate Iron Man’s character) but I’m definitely going to peep that and I will check out the new Hulk movie as well since theres only 1 way to go since the last movie this time around and thats up. Hancock with Will Smith looks pretty dope as well. Check out the trailer here if you haven’t yet. Now all I need is another Sin City and I’ll be set til next year.
Also can’t wait for June b/c the big homie Obeezy is about to layeth the smacketh down if you smell what Barack is cookin! We need to that come to an end already…please. Thanks.
This is one of those songs you wouldn’t expect me to listen to if but then I throw it on the iPod playlist and you’re like “WTF?!”. I love this. Very dope song. I wish I could find an mp3 of “No More Drinks” tho. I can so picture a video for that in my head. Benny is pretty dope tho, I dl’ed a couple more of his joints today. Consider yourselves put on if you haven’t been put on yet.
LOL, I got put on to this on the GTA SA Soundtrack and it became a guilty pleasure. One line I always say from this is “You’re so cool, that I’ma call you a Culo!”. Enjoy Levas!
Remember that secret I was telling you all about? Well apparently, some itches just need to be scratched and certain people (especially in this day and age of blogging and first to something) just had to let it out. I’m not posting a link to DL but I’m pretty positive its not hard to come across a stream and listen in. Not going to say who provided me with this copy but it wasn’t the internets and it definitely makes for a pretty dope story in the future when this album has been out for 5 years or so and it comes up in conversation.
I enjoyed this album (whats out so far). I always enjoyed Dilla’s beats more than his rhymes but he’s not bad at all on this, I especially enjoyed the Pete Rock produced joint Feat. Bilal. “Creeping on you” makes me laugh every time I listen to it. All in all, its a pretty dope album even tho it does feel incomplete but given the circumstances I’m sure people who listen will take it for what it is and let that slide. Enjoy…MCnAsty!
