The Roots tricked me into an Erykah Badu concert.

So as I stated in an earlier post, Friday Night I was blessed with tickets to go see The Roots in concert with Erykah Badu at Radio City Music Hall. I knew going in that it was going to be Miss Badu headlining the show but it did say “With The Roots”. So after telling everybody “Be there at 7:30 on the dot, not a Dominican 7:30, not 7:40, 7:30 on the dot.” of courseI get there at a Dominican 7:30 myself (what can I say, its in my DNA).
By the time we finally got in the place and out of the soaking rain, (about 8:15…15 minutes after the show start time) The Roots were already rocking on stage. About 2 songs later…”Peace!” I’m like WTF?! THATS IT?! They were outtie! I mean I enjoyed watching them for the little bit they were up there but damn, that was pretty fast.
The next 40-60 mins were waiting for Miss Badu’s people to set up while the crowd talked and drank amongst themselves. Then she finally hit the stage and did her thing which wasn’t a bad show at all but being that I don’t really listen to her like that (the only song I was familiar with was probably “Tyrone” and the one with the Dr. Dre “Explosive” sample in it) I was feeling like “These motherfuckers tricked me into an Erykah Badu concert!” I was expecting to see The Roots rock on stage for at least half the night and Miss Badu the rest of the night but whatever, I stayed for the rest of the (really really really long) show which was borderline wierd but very energetic.
Her fans were definitely feeling her up there. At one point I had nothing but peoples backs and asses in my view (since Radio City is seating) but since I wasn’t a hardcore Badu fan I didn’t mind (and I didn’t want to block the people behind me by standing up since I was already being blocked myself). I definitely would’ve enjoyed it a lot more if The Roots would have performed a while longer (they even did “You Got Me” sans Miss Badu) but whatever.
It was a free ticket, first time Badu experience, the night was pretty good. Thank you to Miss Melo for the tickets and Everybody who came along for the ride. Next time I’ll make sure The Roots are going to rock for a while, sorry for the false advertisement.
